A. Yes, you must have a valid provisional driving licence before you can take lessons on public roads. You can apply for your provisional licence online at gov.uk. You must be at least 17 years old to start driving lessons.

A. Weekend Wheels covers Northampton and the surrounding local area. Get in touch to check if we cover your specific location.

A. Yes, we offer both automatic and manual driving lessons. If you are not sure which is right for you, give us a call and we'll help you decide based on your needs and goals.

A. Absolutely. Our instructors are experienced in working with nervous and anxious learners. We take things at your pace, in a calm and supportive environment, so you build confidence naturally. Many of our students who started out very nervous have gone on to pass first time.

A. The syllabus is based on the guidelines from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). Every student has different abilities and learning styles, so we tailor every lesson to your specific needs and pace.

A. Yes, we have both male and female instructors available. Just let us know your preference when you get in touch and we'll do our best to match you with the right instructor.

A. Weekend Wheels is a flexible driving school. With at least 48 hours’ notice, we can pick you up from your home, school, college or a workplace within the local area. Just let us know when you get in touch and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

A. The average student needs around 45 hours of professional instructor training, supplemented by approximately 20 additional hours of private practice with a supervising driver, if available. 

Any supervising driver must be at least 21 years old and have held a full UK driving licence for at least 3 years, with any vehicle used for private practice being properly insured for a learner driver. Everyone learns at a different pace, some students are ready sooner, others need a little longer. Your instructor will keep you updated on your progress throughout.

A. Standard lessons are normally 1.5 hours long. We find this gives you enough time to really build on what you've learned without feeling rushed. Extended lesson times are also available if you prefer, just ask your instructor.

A. We accept payment by bank transfer. 

A. No problem,  just contact your instructor as soon as possible. Please give at least 48 hours notice, otherwise the full lesson fee may be charged. See our terms and conditions for full details.

A. If you have paid in advance and need to stop your lessons, we will charge for the lessons already taken and refund the remaining balance in full within 5 working days. Please see our terms and conditions for full details.

A. You must pass your theory test before booking your practical driving test. Once your instructor is satisfied you are ready, they will advise you to book your test. It's important that you pass a mock test prior to your practical driving test, and that your instructor, the vehicle and you are all available on the same date and time.

A. Yes, Weekend Wheels offers the Pass Plus course for newly qualified drivers who want to build their confidence further after passing their practical test. The course covers all-weather driving, night driving, motorway driving and more. Some car insurers offer discounts to Pass Plus certificate holders, though this varies by insurer, but it's worth checking with yours. Ask your instructor for more details on Pass Plus.
