Automatic Lessons
Automatic cars take care of the gears for you, leaving you free to focus on the road, your steering, and your awareness. With no clutch or gear stick to think about, many learners find automatic driving simpler and less stressful, therefore making it a great choice for nervous drivers, those who want to pass more quickly, or anyone who simply prefers a smoother, more relaxed drive.
Things worth knowing:
- Often automatic is easier to learn, which can mean fewer lessons and a faster route to passing
- A great option if you feel anxious or find manual gears overwhelming
- Ideal if you only ever plan to drive an automatic car

- Please note: if you pass your test in an automatic, your licence will only allow you to drive automatic vehicles
Manual Lessons
Learning in a manual gives you complete control of the car and the freedom to drive any type of vehicle once you have passed. While there is a little more to master such as using the clutch, changing gears, and finding the biting point, the skills you gain are well worth it, and our patient instructors will guide you every step of the way until it feels like second nature.
Things worth knowing:
- Pass in a manual and you can drive both manual and automatic cars
- Greater flexibility for the future, whether for work, hiring a car, or driving abroad
- A valuable life skill that keeps all your options open
- May take a little longer to master than automatic, but the freedom it offers is well worth it

What to expect from your first lesson
Feeling nervous before your first lesson is completely normal, almost everyone does and honestly there is nothing to worry about. Your instructor will keep things calm and supportive throughout, so you can relax, feel safe, and focus on learning.
For complete beginners, your first lesson will usually start somewhere quiet, away from busy traffic, where your instructor will talk you through the controls and help you get comfortable behind the wheel before you even move the car.
There is no pressure and there is no rush because we go at your pace, building your confidence step by step. By the end of your first lesson, you will have taken your first steps towards becoming a safe, confident driver, and we hope you will have enjoyed yourself along the way.
